1. Information We Collect

Practice Pal collects information you provide directly (display name, email, instrument preferences, goals) and information generated through your use of the app (practice session duration, audio analysis data including pitch accuracy and rhythm metrics, performance scores, practice recordings if saved, account profile information). We also process audio data from your device microphone during practice sessions for real-time pitch analysis and feedback. In accordance with Quebec's Law 25 (Loi modifiant principalement la Loi sur la protection des renseignements personnels), we only collect personal information that is necessary to provide our services.

2. Consent & Legal Basis

By using Practice Pal, you consent to the collection, use, and processing of your personal information as described in this policy. As required by Quebec's Law 25, your consent is informed, free, and given for specific purposes. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting charles.olivier.jacques@gmail.com or deleting your account through app settings. We retain the ability to track consent status and process information necessary to maintain legal compliance.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  1. Provide the Practice Pal service including real-time audio feedback, progress tracking, statistics calculation, and streak maintenance
  2. Personalize your experience with adaptive practice plans and AI-generated coaching recommendations
  3. Improve our product through analytics and performance data
  4. Notify you of updates and important service changes
  5. Comply with legal obligations

Your practice data is never sold to third parties. Information is not used for purposes other than those for which it was collected without your explicit prior consent.

4. Audio & Microphone Processing

During practice sessions, Practice Pal accesses your device microphone to capture and analyze audio in real-time. Most audio processing (pitch detection, rhythm analysis, feedback generation) occurs on your device. Selected audio analysis data may be transmitted to our secure servers for: generating AI coach insights, advanced performance metrics, and cross-device progress sync. Complete audio recordings are NOT transmitted or stored unless you explicitly save them. You receive clear in-app notification before any server transmission. Audio data transmitted is processed with end-to-end protection measures.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your practice data is encrypted locally on your device using industry-standard AES-256 encryption. Synced cloud data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest on secure servers. If you create an optional account, we sync selected data to our cloud backend to enable cross-device access and AI features. We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, as required by Law 25. Your data may be processed and stored on servers in Canada and the United States. You may request deletion, and we will purge your data from our systems within 30 days except where required by law to retain.

6. AI Coach & Personalization

The AI Coach analyzes your practice patterns, session performance data, and stated goals to generate personalized practice recommendations, daily challenges, and insight summaries. This processing uses machine learning on aggregated performance metrics and does not involve audio recording review. AI-generated coaching is advisory only and should not replace professional instruction or assessment.

7. Third-Party Services & Partners

We use limited third-party services: Google Firebase for user authentication and app analytics. Firebase is bound by strict data protection agreements. We do NOT share your personal information with marketing partners, advertisers, or data brokers. All third-party service providers must comply with Law 25 and implement equivalent data protection measures. We conduct periodic reviews to ensure vendor compliance.

8. Data Retention & Destruction

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, normally 2 years from last account activity for active users, 6 months from deletion for backup purposes. Upon your request, we securely destroy or anonymize personal information within 30 days. Practice data is stored locally indefinitely (you control deletion), and synced cloud data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion. You may request data export in a standard format at any time.

9. Your Rights Under Quebec Law 25

You have the right to:

  • Access all personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Request deletion of your personal information (with limited exceptions)

Notification will include details about what information was affected and recommended protective steps.
